This is a natural Cowrie Seashell from the CYPRAEA family with a dark brown coat and cream spots. The bottom is a tan, cream color. The polished marine specimen was inherited more than 35 years ago from an avid Florida collector. Most of his shell collection was found in Florida but I'm not sure about this one. I first thought this was either a Tiger Cowie or a Humpback Cowrie but the bottom is not white which Tiger cowries seem to be, nor is the lower rim dark (Humpback feature). The lovely spotted, cowry shell is about 3" long and 1.75" wide. It would make a beautiful addition to any shell collection or as an accent piece for any nautical theme or beach decor.
