    วัตถุประสงค์การจัดพระ ๒๕ พุทธศตวรรษ เพื่อหารายได้สร้างพุทธมณฑลที่ศาลายา จ.นครปฐม เพื่อให้เป็นศูนย์กลางแห่งพระพุทธศาสนาในเมืองไทย ทั้งนี้ พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 9 ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ เสด็จพระราชดำเนินทรงประกอบพิธีวางศิลาฤกษ์สร้างพุทธมณฑล เมื่อวันที่ ๒๘ กรกฎาคม ๒๔๙๘ และเสด็จฯ ทรงประกอบพิธีเททองหล่อพระพุทธรูปจำลอง "พระพุทธปฏิมาประธานพุทธมณฑล" รวมทั้งทรงกดพระพิมพ์พระเครื่อง ๒๕ พุทธศตวรรษ ณ มณฑลพิธีวัดสุทัศนเทพวราราม เมื่อวันที่ ๑๑ กุมภาพันธ์ ๒๕๐๐
