Welcome to a auction of a near mint condition Mercury 9 IX NASA space program 3 inch patch . I have several different space patches in quantity. All auctions are for original space program patches from the 1960’s to the 1980’s, unless otherwise stated and are very much rarer than reproduction patches from many years later, which often look slightly to terribly different. An additional giveaway is the reproduction or later vintage patches on the back, have a silicone coating over the stitching unlike the older ones . THIS PARTCH IS CLEARLY OLDER AND JUST HAS THE BARE STITCHING ON THE BACK. Mercury-Atlas 9 was the final manned space mission of the U.S. Mercury program, launched on May 15, 1963 from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The spacecraft Faith 7, completed 22 Earth orbits before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean, piloted by astronaut Air Force Major Gordon Cooper.
