Autograph w/ Inscription by STERLING SAINT-JACQUES on His LP Cover - Paris 1980

$ 264

Availability: 91 in stock
  • Condition: This item was preowned. In my opinion, this personalized autograph with inscription is in good condition. There is a small amount of fading to one letter and a couple of "stars" in the right corner of the inscription but the rest of the writing is in great shape with dark black ink and no smudging. Please look at the pictures so that you can judge the condition and quality for yourself.

    This item came from an estate auction that I was able to get. It was part of a larger lot of vinyl LP's and I did not know about it until going through them later. The previous owner, from what I can tell, was really into disco back in the day and had a pretty sizable collection of disco music on vinyl (She LOVED Sylvester!). From what I understand, she was also able to travel rather extensively and during one of her trips to Paris in 1980 she met Sterling Saint-Jacques. Thus the personalized autograph. Unfortunately, I know nothing else in particular about this autograph. I don't know why it is on the single cover which has been torn in two nor do I know where the vinyl record is that came with the cover? It did lead me to try and investigate further and so, I opened up the good ole internet.
    From my research I gathered the following information that I would like to share here. Sterling Saint-Jacques was an "American" model, singer, and actor. His origins are sketchy. Some sources state he was born in the US while other sources say he was either Brazilian or Jamaican and was brought to the US by American actor Robert Saint-Jacques who then became Sterling's adoptive father. Robert Saint-Jacques had a moderately successful acting career from the mid 60's until his death in 1990 having worked on various films, television, and theatrical productions through the years.
    But Back to Sterling! He got his start in the movie business in one of his fathers movies and would later have small roles in a few other movies but what catapulted him to greater success was modeling. In fact, Sterling is recognized as the first black supermodel according to the sources I found and became "the Toast of The Town in the late 70's and early 80's". Modeling would eventually lead Sterling to Paris, France, where, in 1980 he released a series of successful and popular disco songs.
    My research suggests that Sterling Saint-Jacques was considered to be a great dancer and a popular "party boy" with several famous women and supposedly quite popular with men too. Either way, whether he was straight, bisexual, or gay, he lived a short life. Supposedly he died on July 4th, 1984 form complications of AIDS never knowing who he contracted it from.
    I do not have a need or desire to own this memorabilia. I was only about 8 to 12 years old during the Disco heyday and therefore, don't have a connection. However, I understand that there are folks out there that would possibly like to have this important "marker of time" and so here it is! I also have a lot of Sylvester LP Vinyl records, two of which are personally inscribed and signed, that I will be listing in the future.
