    Description

Antique French Millinery Leaves Making Iron and Bronze Tool Mold
This listing is for a rare, hard-to-find antique French leaves making millinery iron tool (mold). The mold is of a highly detailed, heart-shaped leaf. The overall length is 7-½ inches. The top, iron part measures 1.25 x 1 inches (leaf only). The bottom, brass part measures about 1.75 x 1.25 inches. The top part is marked “DENIS” and numbers 812 and 4.
These irons were used in the antique millinery and dress-making to create beautiful silk or velvet flowers that decorated fancy dresses and hats. The fabric was starched and then pressed between the two heated halves of the iron and brass mold to make a deep embossed impression. Highly collectible. Wonderful tool for antique-style flower-making and reproductions. Lovely wooden handle with age patina. Excellent original antique condition; the handle has a crack from use, but is absolutely sturdy. It was purchased at a brocante in Paris, France.
