Offering:
A Two-For-One Combo set of a common Egg Cowrie and its rarer dark form!
Cowries are beautiful, but some species are just more exquisite
than others. *Please not that there are several Cowrie species that have a dark, niger form, but
Cypraea eglantina Var. niger
is one of the most
choice and connoisseur Cowrie species
-
the inhabited islands of New Caledonia
have been heavily disturbed by the human presence living there. Effluents from factories and manufacturing in the bays and estuaries has caused pollution which actually caused a genetic anomaly of Cypraea eglantina and the resultant darkening of the standard form to the niger form.

collection - We proudly present premier specimens from our permanent collection. Every one of our specimens was hand-picked over the past 50 years when we began seriously collecting specimen shells through an affiliation with the Chicago Shell Club and the Field Museum of Natural History. Obtaining Cypraea of top GEM quality takes a considerable effort in locating worthy specimens for close review. Parting with favorites like C. leucodon and C. fultoni was extremely difficult, but we were able to place those specimens into major collections. If you are a serious seashell collector and believe that certain shells can be an investment, then you will appreciate the opportunity to own this pair of highly sought after and esteemed species in the family
Cypraeidae
.
All shell specimens have been properly housed in cabinets and stored away from direct light.
Complete locality/data labels provided.
You are purchasing former specimens from our permanent museum collection, and we guarantee you will be pleased!
